17th Annual Pause for Hope Service
MICHELE McMAHON, DIAGNOSED WITH LUNG CANCER AT THE AGE OF 39 TO BE MAIN SPEAKER AT PAUSE FOR HOPE 2015
This year's ecumenical Pause for Hope service for those affected by cancer will be held at 3 pm on Sunday 13th September in the Metropolitan cathedral, Mount Pleasant, Liverpool.
The service is organised by representatives of most of the cancer charities on Merseyside, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support, The Linda McCartney Centre, Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology, Jospice International, The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, The Lily Centre, The Lyndale Centre.
The service will be led by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon together with Rev Dr Crispin Pailing, Rector of Liverpool, and Dr Sheryl Anderson, Chair Liverpool Methodist District.
The main speaker will be Michele McMahon, diagnosed with advanced lung cancer at the age of 39. She will speak about how she coped with life and bringing up two small children and how her faith helped her.
Music will be provided by the Cathedral Girls Choir, Dave Flynn and his daughter Danielle, who will sing solo, and the choir of Wallasey Grammar School for Girls.
The service brings together in prayer those who have or have had cancer, their relatives and friends, doctors, nurses, medical professionals, managers and politicians. It is also an opportunity to remember those who have been lost to cancer.
Pause for Hope is now in its 17th year and annual services are held in Liverpool, Manchester and Chester. Services are also planned this year in London and Scotland.
Pause for Hope is the initiative of Professor Ray Donnelly MBE FRCS, Founder and President of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
He said, "the service provides time for reflection for those whose lives have been touched by the disease as well as being an opportunity to give thanks for efforts to treat and combat cancer. Prayers will also be said for those with responsibility for allocating and managing resources and for our scientists seeking to find a cure.
The aim of Pause for Hope is "to ease, through prayer, the burden of cancer on individuals, their loved ones and the community and to pray that the day will quickly come when all cancers can be prevented or cured".

Messages of Hope
A message from:
Many gave voice to their appreciation for us giving them the opportunity to be with others on the same journey. I know it also allowed family groups to be open with each other, but also to feel supported - never alone and not to be afraid.
