How did it start?
The initiative came from Professor Ray Donnelly, FRCSE, MBE, retired thoracic surgeon and Founder and President of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. He was supported by Bro Ken Vance SJ and other cancer charities on Merseyside. The first annual ecumenical service was held in 1999 in St Francis Xavier’s Church, Liverpool.
Services are now held in different parts of the UK and the Isle of Man and there has also been some international interest.
